What is Channeling?
Generally, channeling is the ability to connect with aspects of Oneness, such as guides, teachers and master souls — your spiritual team. Sometimes that connection allows a guide or teacher to actually speak through the channeler. Every channeler is a filter, which simply means that Oneness relays messages according to whichever way the channeler’s personality can best receive them.
In Mark’s case, words come through in slow and clear sentences. Perhaps that’s because Mark is naturally interested in etymology — the history and development of language and of particular words. Mark has on occasion been kidded for being a “wordsmith.”
Richard, on the other hand, receives impressions and visual images not unlike a cloud of information. Because Richard’s passions are things mechanical, he very often also gets messages as mechanical analogies. In other words, while Mark hears sentences, Richard sees ideas.
Interesting Note
What’s interesting, though, is that when these two men compare notes on the same subject, the two modes of channeling result in similar and sometimes nearly verbatim answers.

We encourage you to also give channeling a try. It might be easier than you think, and you’ve probably already done it. Whenever you’re in the creative process and fully into it, you’re drawing inspiration from Oneness. You can also consult Oneness on any subject as we do. That requires stillness and awareness. Write down a question and listen for an answer. The answer will most likely seem to be your own inner voice, and for that reason, you’ll be tempted to discount what you’re hearing. Write it down anyway, then put your paper or notebook aside. When you come back to it, you’ll be amazed by the depth and wisdom of the answers.
How to Start Channeling:
A Step-by-Step Guide
You might be surprised to learn that you have likely channeled before. If you have ever been in a “flow state” during a creative project, you were drawing inspiration directly from Oneness.
If you want to learn how to channel with your spirit guides, follow these simple steps:
- Enter a State of Stillness: Find a quiet space and practice mindful awareness.
- Ask a Specific Question: Write your question down in a notebook to set your intention.
- Listen Without Judgment: Listen for an answer. It will often sound like your own “inner voice,” which leads many beginners to discount the information.
- The “Write and Return” Method: Write down whatever comes to you, then set the notebook aside. When you return to it later with a fresh perspective, you will be amazed by the depth and wisdom of the answers.
- Remember, this takes patience and practice: Learning how your guides, teachers and masters present you information is unique to you and you must learn that language. This may take time, so writing down your impressions will help this process become clear.
